We understand that life doesn’t always go according to plan. When illness, injury or loss affects you or your family, dealing with insurance can feel like one more thing to manage.
That’s why it matters to us to respond promptly, listen carefully and offer clear, practical support. We take the time to understand your circumstances and help you through the claims process, keeping you informed along the way.
The stories below share some of the ways we’ve supported our clients during difficult times. We’re grateful for their trust and for the opportunity to help when they needed it.
Mary - Blood Cancer
This one is very personal. My wife, Mary, has blood cancer – multiple myeloma.
Thankfully, her health insurance has covered a significant portion of the treatment costs. However, there was one expensive non-Pharmac drug that was highly recommended as part of her treatment, which we had to fund ourselves.
Her ongoing health issues have reinforced for me personally just how important it is to have the right insurance in place.
Sam - Income Protection
Sam has a son who has just started secondary school.
Sam developed difficulty swallowing and was subsequently diagnosed with throat cancer.
Fortunately, he had income protection in place. His policy provided his full income benefit for six months while he underwent treatment, allowing him to take time away from work while continuing to meet his mortgage and other household bills.
Sam was able to return to work within those six months, and the insurer paid the full six months of the benefit.
For Sam, the insurance meant he could concentrate on getting better rather than worrying about how he was going to pay the bills.
Rob - $330,000 Trauma Claim
Rob was living overseas when he developed some health issues and sought medical advice.
Doctors identified problems with his bladder, so Rob returned to Auckland and saw an oncologist. He was subsequently diagnosed with bladder cancer.
Within eight days of the diagnosis being confirmed, his trauma insurance claim was paid – $330,000.
That money gave Rob the financial ability to go privately for his treatment and focus on dealing with his cancer.
Sue - Life Insurance Claim
Sue rang my office one morning to tell me that her husband, Mike, had died in a car accident the previous day.
We immediately arranged for the insurer to pay the funeral benefit to help meet the immediate costs.
The full life insurance claim was then settled a few days later.
Sue was extremely grateful for the immediate financial support at a time when she was dealing with the shock and grief of losing her husband.
Trish - Life Insurance
Trish and her husband, Mark, were overseas visiting family with their children for the first time.
Mark went to bed one night but sadly did not wake up.
A couple of months before their trip, Trish had spoken to me about the cost of their insurance and was considering reducing the amount of cover.
We reviewed their financial position and their ongoing needs, and Trish ultimately decided to keep the existing level of cover.
When Mark died, he was the family’s main income earner.
Because they had retained the existing level of life insurance, Trish and her children are now financially secure despite losing Mark.
